Calathea Makoyana is also known as the Peacock Plant or the Cathedral Windows. It has a combination of light and dark green colors on the top of the leaves which make them look like a feather. Besides, as the new leaves grow, they show off their pinkish red undersides because they are rolled up. This beautiful Peacock Plant grows up to a height of 2 ft. It thrives best in humid temperature. If the humidity is low for a longer period of time, the tip of the leaves might start turning brown. It requires moderate to low indirect sunlight to grow efficiently. Excessive exposure to sunlight can dull the leaves.
Further, misting the plant with distilled or rain water is necessary for its growth. Using normal tap water might damage its leaves because of the fluoride content present in it. Hence, it is important to use distilled water or rain water. Additionally, the soil needs to retain moisture at all times. Thus, it is essential to water it generously during its growing season. Later on, the watering frequency can be kept low during winter. Feeding It with a dilute fertilizer once every two weeks is beneficial during the growing period. It is best to re-pot this plant during the spring season once every two years.

Soil – Your Peacock plant requires soil that can hold moisture well and provides good drainage. Perhaps the best option to use is a potting mix consisting of 2 part peat and 1 part perlite or sand.
Light – All Calathea plants can benefit from indirect light and Peacock plants are no exception. It is important to protect your Peacock plant from strong, direct light. It can cause damage to the leaves and make the markings on the leaves fade. Bright yet indirect light seems to work the best for these plants.
