Calathea Lancifola plants also known as Rattlesnake plants has long and narrow ruffled green leaves with dark green patterns and purple color on the backside of the leaf. These leaves have a combination of dark green and bright green colors with a purple underside.
This houseplant requires a bright light for adequate growth, but not direct sunlight. It is best to use distilled or rain water while watering this plant. Water it generously, however, ensure that the soil doesn’t remain soggy which might lead to rotting of the roots. A pot with drainage holes will therefore prove to be ideal for potting the Rattlesnake plant.
Light: Bright, indirect sunlight. No direct sun, which will cause brown marks on its leaves.
Water: During the growing season ( May – Aug) water frequently. Always keep the soil moist (not waterlogged). During the winter cut this down and only water when the top soil has become dry to the touch.
Soil: 2 parts peat/1 part perlite would be suitable. The soil needs to be able to retain some moisture while also being able to drain (too much drainage materials used is not advised).
Feed: Apply a weak dose of a nitrogen rich foliage fertilizer once or twice a month during the growing season.
