The Philodendron Cordatum, commonly known as the Heart-Leaf Philodendron, belongs to the plant family of Araceae. It gets its name evidently because of its heart-shaped leaves. It is a climber plant and is native to the Caribbean and Central America. Its vines can grow more than 6 feet in length. The beautiful heart-shaped leaves have a glossy green colour which gives a vibrant look to your interiors. Furthermore, this plant is easy to grow and requires low maintenance. It is suitable for hanging baskets as well. Heart leaf philodendron prefers indirect bright light to grow efficiently. It does fine in low light as well.
Placing the plant in direct sunlight will scorch its leaves. Supply adequate water to the plant but be careful not to overwater it. Overwatering will cause the leaves to start turning yellow. Similarly, not watering it sufficiently will lead to the browning of the leaves. Ensure that the top layer of the soil is dry enough before watering again. Feeding the plant with a balanced fertilizer once a month during its growing season will boost its healthy growth. Additionally, trimming the plant will help you gain the desirable size. Repotting the plant every 2-3 years when its roots grow pot bound is beneficial for its growth. However, Philodendrons are toxic and thus, should be kept away from the reach of pets and children.
